Old and New

On average, I spend about one day a month at my client in Marbach, the Deutsche Literaturarchiv (German Literature Archive). I have showed you pictures of this fascinating place before; for instance here or more recently in my January Summary.

I was back there again on the 7th of this month, to give my annual in-house data protection training to the employees. Between the morning and afternoon session, I had almost 2 hours to myself, and I used them well: First for a meal at the nearby restaurant "Schillerhöhe", and afterwards for a nice long walk.

Here are the pictures I took that day with my mobile.

The room where this year's training took place. The portrait is of Alexander Humboldt.

Walkway along the LiMo (Literaturmuseum der Moderne) - this is the "New" I hinted at in this post's title - and the Schiller Nationalmuseum, the "Old":

View from LiMo's terrace across the river Neckar valley:

The train that takes me to and from Marbach comes across this viaduct:

I did not venture very far, but came across a footbridge I'd never been to before. Of course I had to walk on it and look at what I could see from there.

As you can see, the weather was better than at my last visit! The sun was welcome, and there were birds everywhere; in the gardens I walked past, snowdrops, crocus and aconites adorned the ground, and winter jasmine added even more yellow.

Can you tell I do like my Marbach days?

  1. Spring is coming to Marbach! It's great that you do not waste your free time, but took such a nice walk (after lunch, of course). A little bit of sun makes such a difference.

    1. It does, Kristi, doesn't it!
Spring was coming - and will be back. Right now, though, we are having more snow than what we did all winter.

  2. A very nice place to visit monthly, from the looks of it! And spring is on the way...isn't that wonderful? :)

    1. On Saturday, it started to snow, and now we have more snow than what we did all winter! But this won't stop spring for long, I am sure.

  4. Well you were spared the wind on this occasion. I always appreciated a walk at lunchtime during seminars. Seminars always seemed to be held in rooms that were too warm and made one drowsy.

    1. I may get drowsy at a seminar when I am one of the attendants and either the speaker or the subject (or both) are a little on the "dry" side... but there is no time for drowsiness when I am the speaker :-)

  5. Nice building and views. Certainly looks a lot more like spring than it has around here lately (still snowy)!

    1. The archive in Marbach holds some manuscripts from him. By all I know about him, his quest for knowledge was huge, and he was fortunate enough to have the means to to follow it.

  8. It is a very encouraging time of year, isn't it? When the flowers and plants and animals and birds are whispering, "look, we haven't really gone away forever - we will be back soon!" :)

    1. You should see the neighbourhood now, Jenny! It started to snow seriously on Saturday, and on Sunday, the world outside was a veritable winter wonderland. It is colder now than it has been in December.

  9. It seems that everywhere you go, and when you stay home, your surroundings are so beautiful. As I've said before, the government could hire you as a tourist agent! You are a great promoter of your country!

    1. Thank you, Nan :-) I simply don't show the bad and ungly bits... and they are there, too. But generally, the area where I live really is beautiful and a good place to live and work.
