If you could read it in one sitting it would be easier, but the last chapter threw me as a character from much earlier turned up who was supposed to be dead and left the reader (well me anyway), wondering who the real killer was. It was a page turner, but a confusing one!Maggie Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15938216505505274248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-57820869678479094642015-12-29T20:04:20.161+01:002015-12-29T20:04:20.161+01:00I will, indeed. I too tend to put a book aside at the first sighting of cliched characterisations, even if my tend to run more to thrillers than romance.Shooting Parrotshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07503757845024102476noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-90315686719658102812015-12-29T15:25:26.025+01:002015-12-29T15:25:26.025+01:00I would have been bothered by the "masterful&...I would have been bothered by the "masterful" men, too. It sounds corny at best, slightly offensive at worst.

I have no problem giving up on a book I dislike halfway through. To me, life is too short and there are too many books out there to enjoy to waste time on something I'm not enjoying!

Speaking of which, I'm enjoying the book I'm currently reading--Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel. Have you heard of it? It got great reviews when it was published earlier this year. It is disappointing when you keep reading in the hope that the book will improve. I am reading one now and I feel the same. It's Friday on My Mind by Nicci French. It has to be returned by 31st so need to get on with it. I intend to finish it!Maggie Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15938216505505274248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-67409005868639697362015-12-29T12:38:00.872+01:002015-12-29T12:38:00.872+01:00I really should have just given up on it; it does ...I really should have just given up on it; it does feel like a waste of time. You know the feeling when you are looking forward to returning to your book at night? That definitely wasn't the case with this one, and I found myself rather watching more telly than going back to this book, which is why it took me a lot longer to finish than it usually would have done.Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704656564078750607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-1416082335610813372015-12-29T11:12:02.101+01:002015-12-29T11:12:02.101+01:00It doesn't sound like a book that would appeal...It doesn't sound like a book that would appeal to me either. . I would not say it sounds really violent, a bit old fashioned I suppose, some people are supposed to get turned on by that kind of behaviour when it is known as "masterful" :) but the whole thing just sounds so corny that I am sure this aspect of it would annoy me too, being just as cliche'd and contrived as the rest of it sounds!

I hate the experience of reading a book that you keep feeling will improve, and yet it never does. It quite mkaes me feel I have wasted my time on it so I hope it did not impinge too much on your Christmas.
Jenny Woolfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16881781466502273314noreply@blogger.com
