Still, I think you might find them interesting....BTW, my grandfather was a delivery boy for Marshall Fields in 1904 when he was twelve years old.

http://www.jeannedams.com/hilda.shtmlAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-75843814334415667172013-02-23T21:09:15.653+01:002013-02-23T21:09:15.653+01:00Every book I read (or give up on) is reviewed on m...Every book I read (or give up on) is reviewed on my blog, Monica, so if I do indeed come across one set in Chicago in the first part of the 20th century, you will certainly know about it :-)Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704656564078750607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-5543008752769961932013-02-23T20:05:01.838+01:002013-02-23T20:05:01.838+01:00Let me know if you ever happen to stumble upon one...Let me know if you ever happen to stumble upon one set in Chicago around 1902-1912... which is when my great-aunt served as a maid in some households there :)DawnTreaderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04533307672147117843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-55302802667023089092013-02-23T19:49:50.311+01:002013-02-23T19:49:50.311+01:00This one was very rich in information; if anyone p...This one was very rich in information; if anyone plans to write a novel set in Boston in those years, they could use it as a source for their research.Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704656564078750607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-46830923795494572842013-02-23T19:48:29.953+01:002013-02-23T19:48:29.953+01:00Thank you so much for your great feedback, Janice!...Thank you so much for your great feedback, Janice! We (= my Mum and I, not the majestic "we", he he) are well chuffed! I am going to check out the picture immediately.

Like you, I have stopped feeling as if I have to finish every book I start. If I think it is a waste of time, I set myself a limit (as in, "finish this chapter at least") to give the book a chance, and then I put it aside. I also delete such books from my kindle instantly.Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704656564078750607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-33617335500147198932013-02-23T19:09:08.809+01:002013-02-23T19:09:08.809+01:00I know what you mean (I think) - I too sometimes f...I know what you mean (I think) - I too sometimes find certain classics worth reading more for the historical aspects or details than because I get really engaged in the characters or the plot. For the same reason I often find it hard to rate the classics 'on the same scale' as contemporary books. There is nothing worse than that. In fact if I start a book and it starts to feel that way sometimes I don't even finish it anymore. I never used to do that I always finished what I started but not anymore there just isn't enough time to waste.

I received some more socks from your lovely Mom today. Just as beautiful as the first. I published another photo. I could not be more happy with the purchase.

Have a wonderful weekend Meike!!Softiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11471449618465917430noreply@blogger.com
