I only know the old Star Trek, the one with Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner. TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE... Well, of course not the real Samuel Clemens, since he died too long ago, but his persona did.Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704656564078750607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-75846713989941473122012-11-30T00:23:55.078+01:002012-11-30T00:23:55.078+01:00Dear Meike,

His writing was so witty and really spot-on in his observations.
The first time I read Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, I was blown away by his perfect views of the more well-off members of society and also how he captured the feelings of those who were the more downtrodden. I love the character of Huck Finn than almost anyone I can think of in fiction. The chapter in the book entitled "You Can't Pray A Lie", made me go back and re-read it again and again at the simple truth of it. I was only ten years old and I remember it like it was yesterday!
Sorry to go on and on, but Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) was such a fantastic writer and I love good writing!Kay G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/07228498846814735537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-7682063654228234752012-11-29T04:47:54.095+01:002012-11-29T04:47:54.095+01:00Given my reading volume these days it might be a l...Given my reading volume these days it might be a long wait but it is now on the list.GBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10289400344300258872noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-77632578493373656112012-11-28T19:52:50.836+01:002012-11-28T19:52:50.836+01:00Twain is one of those people I would like to spend...Twain is one of those people I would like to spend an evening with if time-travelling was possible - he had such a great mind.Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704656564078750607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-19680300702672673332012-11-28T18:04:05.528+01:002012-11-28T18:04:05.528+01:00Thank you for reminding people that Twain was so m...Thank you for reminding people that Twain was so much more than just his two most famous books. It is not very long; took me (with some skipping, as mentioned above) maybe 6 hours altogether (I can estimate it so well because I read most of it on the train, and each trip was 2 1/2 hours, plus some extra time during lunch break).Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704656564078750607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-4115130034710892262012-11-28T15:20:43.261+01:002012-11-28T15:20:43.261+01:00This sounds so intriguing.....Twain is someone I h...This sounds so intriguing.....Twain is someone I haven't read for years. In high school his The Mysterious Stranger was an amazement to me. An angel comes to town and answers people's prayers, gives them what they wanted, but in horrifying ways. It gave me a lot to think about. And A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court was a delight. Perhaps I should read this, Meike, but I'm so behind on books I want to read from recommendations. Nevertheless, I have a little list and this is now on it.Thickethouse.wordpresshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17187303460677067276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-32745165678159670352012-11-28T11:51:27.525+01:002012-11-28T11:51:27.525+01:00Please let me know how you liked it when you have ...Please let me know how you liked it when you have read it.Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704656564078750607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949425054295660529.post-13598854188235479572012-11-28T10:05:31.938+01:002012-11-28T10:05:31.938+01:00I was very amused by the start of the book.
