It's This One!

On the 15th of this month, I gave you all a chuckle (at least I hope I did!) by letting you see a choice of specs I tried while searching for the "perfect" frame for me.

Well, none of the ones you saw here was it - instead, a few days later, I went to a different shop with more qualified staff (and, accordingly, higher priced), and with my mother's and the shop owner's help I settled for this one:

Just ignore my grumpy expression (and rest assured I was feeling anything but grumpy at the time) and the reflection of light on one of the glasses.

Today, I've placed the order, after I spent about an hour there yesterday to have my eyes thoroughly checked and measured and amusing myself and the friendly lady from the shop with my guessing of the numbers she showed me on slides. Honestly, I should start to play the lottery, I was so good at that!
From that lady, I learnt quite a lot about how specs are made and what the technical possibilies are nowadays. There's some trivia now floating about in my mind which I will most likely never need, unless there will be questions about the subject in a pub quiz after the summer break :-)

Now I can't wait for my new specs to be finished; it will probably take about a fortnight, which would still be in time for the fair in Cologne where I am going to work in August.

And yes, I know my hair really needs doing...

  1. Can't tell for sure, but the frames look a good color to go with your hair. I like them very much. Over here, we call them glasses!

  2. Nice frames! I think you made a good choice.

I just had my eyes checked and put new lenses in the old frames which I am still in love with. A vintage frame parade, I think !

what new possibilities are there with spectacles? it never seemed to me that there is very much that's possible to do with mere frames. But probably I am wrong :)

  3. Lovely -- and it caused me to go back and see the choices. I find the expressions more interesting than the glasses.

  5. I got new glasses in the winter. I can understand how frustrating it is to find the "ones." On another note, I love your top!

  6. Yes, I like your new glasses! (Jill is right, we just always say "glasses"!) And also, I like your hair color, has it gone that way from being in the sun or have you colored it? We used to have a TV ad here in the states, "Only her hairdresser knows for sure". HA HA Probably dating myself a bit here...

  7. I like the specs (and, if I may be so bold, I would add that anyone wearing such a happy top couldn't possibly be grumpy). My last pair took about 3 minutes to choose! Just don't ask me for such a quick decision from a restaurant menu.

  8. Thank you, Jill, I think the same.

Jenny, I still like my old frame, but it's really knackered now and I'm afraid of it falling apart. When the new ones are ready, the old ones will go into a drawer as redundancy.

Mark, I guess it is obvious from the choices picture how much fun my sister and I had on that day!

Thank you, Julie! Both my mum and my sister have been very helpful with this, and I know I can rely on their honest opinion.

Sonia, it's a dress, and believe it or not, it came from the supermarket 5 or 6 years ago for under a tenner.

Kay, my hair would all be white/grey by now if I did not keep colouring it. Before turning grey, my hair was a mousy brown, always going lighter in the summer from being in the sun a lot. The colouring does that, too, so this comes to look almost natural - until you take a closer look at the roots :-D

Thank you, GB! I can do those quick decisions, too - one year, I wanted a hat for winter, and I think it was even less than 3 minutes until I had found "my" hat.

  9. They look very good with your coloring! And a nice shape. Enjoy them! I really like your dress. It makes me happy just to look at it.

  10. Thank you, Kristi! I like that dress, too, it is so uncomplicated - you just slip it on and are completely dressed in the blink of an eye.
