Walking Around Lindau

Two posts back, I gave you a warning - there were going to be many more pictures from Lindau (on Lake Constance) in future posts. And here is one of them.
On the first day of our stay there, RJ left after breakfast to hold a one-day seminar about data protection/privacy and IT security. I had the day to myself and set off soon after he was gone.

My plan was to walk around the outer rim of the island once, which would take me nearly until lunch time (if I'd keep to a very leisurely pace, allowing for plenty of photo stops), then have something to eat before setting out on another walk, this time to explore the town centre. Depending on the weather, I could take a short boat trip around the bay to Bregenz (Austria), or visit a museum and/or some shops.

At first, the weather didn't look promising. As you can see, the morning light was grey, and it was very windy, with sprinkles here and there, just enough for me to be glad of my hooded rain jacket, but not enough for stopping me from my walk.

Later into the morning, all of a sudden the sun came out. This is the advantage - or the disadvantage - of being near a large body of water such as a big lake or the Sea: The weather changes very quickly.

By now, I had more than halfway surrounded the island. I'll show you the rest in my next post.

  1. The light in your Lindau photos is stunning and I rather liked the picture you took of your long shadow. Once we were in Fredrichshafen where a very kind Ford mechanic fixed our broken car for nothing so we could continue on our holiday journey to Italy.

    1. Funnily enough, when I think of Friedrichshafen, apart from the very interesting Zeppelin museum I most vividly remember how Steve and I met a very large, very affectionate white cat in a quiet street along the lake.

  2. The first image is a beauty. It's a grand day when the light is so changeable.

    1. Thank you, Adrian! This coming from you means a lot, since you are a much more expert photographer than I could ever hope to be.

    1. There are similar steps at various points on the island, and they are really used by people who go for an early morning swim all year round! But this one, with its curved shape and the oldfashioned railing, was the prettiest.

  4. A wonderful autumnal walk. I rarely bother about the things I cannot do at the moment and just concentrate on the things that I can do. At the moment a long walk like that is beyond my capabilities (although when I get around to getting a new knee it may no longer be so) and seeing your photos and makes me feel more than a little nostalgic for the days when I could have done that too. I enjoyed your walk immensely Meike.

    1. This was about 2/3 into the walk, Graham. It is all even surface so not very strenuous; I am quite sure you could have managed that. Glad you enjoyed it - plus you did not need to wear a rain coat!
