Visiting Strasbourg - Part II

As promised in my first Strasbourg post (go two posts back to read it, if you are interested), here are the pictures I took during the afternoon spent on our own in the old town.

Strasbourg Minster deserves a post on its own, therefore, you'll get only glimpses of this magnificent building in this post.

The last picture of that beautiful courtyard was taken by my sister - because by that time, the battery in my camera was flat, and the replacement I always carry with me turned out to be flat, too. Doesn't really matter, does it - these are certainly enough pictures to give you an impression of what the old town of Strasbourg looks like.

We ate Flammkuchen (regional specialty) for a very late lunch (after 3.00 pm) in a restaurant where we were the only guests. After that, we were very much ready for our walk around the town.

  1. For the benefit of other readers of this post, Flammkuchen is in French - tarte flambée - an Alsatian dish composed of bread dough rolled out very thinly in the shape of a rectangle or circle, which is covered with fromage blanc or crème fraîche, thinly sliced onions and lardons.

    1. Thank you, YP. I was running out of time while writing this post (had a train to catch) and so did not further explain about the Flammkuchen. Mine was not the classic one; I went for a "quattre fromages" variety (four types of cheese) and my sister had one without bacon. It was delicious and most welcome after having had to wait so long since breakfast!

    2. If you ! keep eating stuff like that you will be posting pictures of a chubby Librarian in voluminous clothing!

    3. I always walk, run, dance or skip it off afterwards, so, not to worry!

  2. I think I want to be in Strasbourg again! I've been twice, but never for long enough to wander about and see all I wanted........And maybe I will try to make my version of Flammkuchen, a vegetarian one......

    1. I'd been to Strasbourg before, but that was so long ago I didn't remember much. It really is a good place to explore, and really not all that far from where I live, so well worth a day trip.

  3. I was looking through the photos carefully to see if any jogged my memory. Unfortunately the only thing I can recall is that we parked the car in an archway between two buildings. If I get around to sorting old photos this winter I'll have to see what I can find. It certainly looks very attractive.

    1. It will be interesting to compare your pictures with mine if you get around to sorting your old ones. Like you, I did not recall anything much from previous visits, although I'd been to Strasbourg before and it actually is the kind of place where one can easily create lasting memories.

    2. I've been promising myself to go through the photos for a long time. I'm really hoping that this winter will provide that time.
