Summer Colours

Just a very quick fashion post before I start working on the task I have set myself for today (working from home): Summer colours.
White - which is actually said to be a "non-colour" - is the most summery of all colours, even though in nature, it occurs much more in winter (at least here in central Europe, where we do get some snow and ice each year).

Of course anything goes well with white, except for maybe cream and ivory. This year, I have been wearing greens and aqua blues quite frequently, and usually team them up with white.

Two examples, one for work and one for a day off, meeting a friend.

I don't think I need to tell you which one was the work outfit and which one I was not wearing to the office.

The green skirt was bought 5 years ago at Manchester Airport while my sister and I were waiting for our flight back home. The white cardigan and the capri jeans are recent Aldi finds. The white t-shirt is from H&M, and the top I am wearing with the capri pants comes from comma. The white heels are Tamaris, the flats Esprit (so, nothing expensive there). The latter ones I've had for ages - every year when the warm season comes round I think I can't wear them another year, they really are too knackered now, but then I throw them in the washing machine and they come out nice and white again, and I wear them "just one more season"... I guess I'll keep doing that until they will fall off my feet mid-walk one day!
Do you have such favourites you'll be wearing until they drop off you in rags?

  1. Very nice summery colors....The detail at the neck of the top with the polka dots is very interesting.

    1. Thank you, Kristi. Yes, that top is an unusual cut for me altogether, which was part of its attraction.

  2. Yes, and occasionally when I have just bought something I know it will become a favourite so I go back and get another one before the shop sells out!

    1. I should have done that with those flats! They are so old that there is no chance of finding them again now.

  3. Yes indeed I do have things I wear long past their prime ... in fact I have things I've put in and taken out of the donation basket so many times they qualify for frequent flyer miles.

    1. I like that comment Jill. I am wearing a shirt this evening at home which i realised I bought at least 35 years ago! Min you as it has long sleeves I've not worn it during the last 9 years when, until this winter/spring, I had only worn short sleeves.

    2. I like that comment, too, Jill!
Once I've put something aside that's where it stays until I put the bag out for collecting. We have various organizations here who put leaflets in the mailbox to let you know when they next are in your street to collect clothes and shoes etc., and I usually wait for one of the non-profit ones.

  4. I like those greens and blues too. And yes I have had shoes and items of clothing that I found it hard to give up too - at least unless I could find a good replacement of the same kind. In 2013-14 I exchanged almost my whole wardrobe when losing weight, though. The only "oldies" left are a couple of bathrobes, I think - and, yes, some shoes! :)

    1. I remember some of your posts about finding new stock for your wardrobe, Monica, after your successful diet. Shoes are of course largely unaffected by our weight loss or gain :-) (unless it's boots and our legs have changed considerably).

    2. On my kneehigh leather boots the legwidth is adjustable with straps, and another pair in Goretex are kind of elastic. So I did not have to get any new high ones for this past winter - which was also a rather mild one. What I could do, though, was tuck my jeans into them! ... Partly thanks to this post of yours, by the way, I have just thrown out three worn-out pairs of summer/walking shoes. :)

  5. I like the green outfit Meike and those white shoes go with it well. I think it's because they are balanced by the white top.

    1. Thank you, Graham. For me, that combination of green and white says "May/June". It is a very different green from what I would see as an autumn and winter green.

  6. Do you have such favourites you'll be wearing until they drop off you in rags? Yes Meike - ALL my clothes. If I were a rich man I think I would have the same attitude to clothes I feel comfortable in - I would wear them to death. Maybe someone has already written a book about the psychology of clothing choices in the western world.

    1. Such a book possibly already exists; if not, it would be a most interesting topic to write about, I think. Like you, even if I were rich, I doubt I'll change much about my clothes. I guess I'd still be happy with my cheap Aldi and H&M stuff, but would probably buy comma and other brands at their regular prices without waiting for the summer and winter sales.

  7. Very pretty colors!!! I've always worn very dark colors, even in the spring and summer. This year, I decided to pick up a couple new outfits that have some very vibrant colors! I've had so many compliments on them, that I've decided to refresh my wardrobe with some newer brighter colors! I watch the sales racks myself, and weed through what I can find. My kids always end up with lots of new stuff since they grow so quickly, so I've become pretty good at finding a fairly good deal on clothes now. Pre-kids I would have just bought whatever I found if I liked it and never thought twice about the price!

I have a pair of flats that are probably better off for the garbage bin at this point, but they are so incredibly comfortable still! I sit behind a desk all day at work, so nine times out of ten, I kick off my shoes at work while I'm sitting there. I prefer no shoes, but apparently I still need to follow dress code at work! ;)

You look absolutely amazing in those colors!

    1. Thanks, Mel!

I love the idea of you freshening up your wardrobe with new bright colours. I am sure you look very good in all of them, as the compliments you are getting confirm.
Can't possibly take off my shoes at the office - it is our customer's building, not our own rooms, and I always have to be prepared for someone coming in. But when I am working from home, nobody sees me, and I can sit down at my desk in whatever state of dress (or undress) I choose :-)

  8. What pretty outfits! I love the white paired with the summery colors. Love your fashion posts!
And yes...giggle, giggle...I DO have clothes that are so old they might fall off of me in rags! Have you been speaking with my co-workers? :-)

Thank you - I am glad you like my fashion posts. I know they are extremely narcissistic (right term?) and shallow, but that's how I am.

  9. I do have a favorite skirt that I bought years ago at Matalan in England. Like you, every time I think I really can't or shouldn't wear it any more, I decide to wash and iron it just one more time. It always go back in the closet every time I decide to clear out. I simply cannot bear to part with it. It fits! It's long enough! It's beige! It has gores and a flare! What's not to like? Lately, though, I've been careful where I wear it, so that I don't wear it out and have to try to find a replacement.

    2. Thank you! That was indeed a lucky find, and rather unusual for me, as I have only very few green items in my wardrobe - three or so.
