Summer in My Wardrobe

So far, summer here in my area (south Germany) has been what could very well become another record summer after the "Jahrhundertsommer" ("One in a century summer") of 2003. It's been hot, hot, hot. On the first weekend of July (while I was having fun at, in and on the water, spending time with friends living at a lake in northern Germany), my Mum measured 41 Celsius on her balcony one afternoon - in the shade.

Most days we've had temperatures of 33 to 38 Celsius during the day, and for many people it was/is a problem that it does not really cool off all that much during the night.
It is a challenge looking smart and working well in this heat at my customer's office - I am on the 4th floor there, with no AC... But I'm not complaining! Soon enough, the time will be here when I'll be standing on the platform, waiting for my train in the morning, shivering in the cold in spite of my coat, and then I'll long for the weather we have now.
Also, this sunshine day after day gives me a chance to wear my favourite summer outfits. I remember summers when I didn't even get round to wear each of my dresses once, because it simply wasn't warm and nice enough.

Here are some of the outfits I have been wearing this summer.

These were both worn to work. The black cardigan was, of course, not needed all day, only until the sun had come out properly.

Definitely NOT worn to the office:

One of my favourite dresses (you've seen it on this blog before). It's a Laura Ashley, and I wore it to a wedding in July where RJ and I were guests. It has a stiff tulle petticoat underneath and looks great on the dancefloor:

In contrast, the long 80s-style t-shirt and capri jeans are from Aldi, the cardigan from H&M. This entire outfit cost under 50 Euros, I think - minus the handbag, which was a gift. (Not a business outfit, obviously.)

This wouldn't be a complete fashion post without my favourite colour - yellow:

I doubt I'll need many of these items for the next two weeks... as far as I can tell, it won't get much above 20 Celsius in Yorkshire. Perfect for all the walks and hikes my sister and I want to go on!

  1. I can tell you it's a lovely day in Yorkshire at the moment - though it never gets anywhere near the temperatures you have been experiencing and rarely above 27C. We are heading south shortly and hoping we will get some kind of summer, pottering about... Enjoy your break - hope Britain's weather behaves itself for you!

    1. For the past 15 years, I have come to Yorkshire regularly, sometimes in summer, sometimes in the spring. The hottest day I've ever experienced there was in July 2013, when the thermometer reached an incredible 29 Celsius.
We don't mind if it doesn't get too hot, and a few rainy days in between won't do no harm, either. Just don't let it be too cold and too wet all the time, please!

  2. Summer in Georgia, you don't want to know about!!
LOVE the Laura Ashley dress on you, it is perfect!
Of course, all your outfits looks nice on you, but the yellow one is such a pretty color!
Have fun in Yorkshire! Did I tell you I saw that Harrogate was voted the happiest place to live? Or some such thing like that, you know me, my mind is a sieve...have fun with your family there! :-)

    1. Thank you, Kay! I love the dress, too. It was only the 2nd time I wore it - there are not that many occasions where I won't be overdressed with it.
Yes, I know the bit about Harrogate - it was in The Ripon Gazette, too :-)

  3. We've had record heat many days here, too, but I really think it cannot compare to the summer you are having in Europe from all I've heard and read. Put change is the name of the game! Personally I prefer winter to a hot summer because I feel I can control that more! I really enjoy looking at your outfits. You have a good figure for a model! And the Laura Ashley is my favorite. It's so lovely, though of course it cannot be worn for every occasion. But so elegant. Enjoy your vacation!

    1. Winter is getting harder to cope with the older I get, and I was very glad that we were let off so easily last winter, which was uncharacteristically mild.
The dress is really lovely, isn't it! There aren't that many occasions where I can wear it; this was only its 2nd outing since my Mum bought it for me two or three years ago.

    1. Thank you! It can be cloudy and rainy in England as much as it wants to until Sunday :-) (Yes, I really am that selfish!)

  5. When walking past Yorkshire building sites don't be surprised if the builders wolf whistle at you Miss Arian!

    1. It will be a lot cooler in Yorkshire than here, so I will probably have to be well covered up from head to toe most days - certainly no whistling then, when I'll just be walking around in jeans and cardigans :-)
