A Place For All Seasons

It is the middle of January, and I don't know how long winter will last this time. We've had years when there were spring-like days already in February, warm enough to venture out short-sleeved, with snow and ice coming back with a vengeance in March.
Other years, spring came late and I was nearly going mad with longing for warmer days.
No matter how the seasons will be playing out this year, I like observing the change. And one way to make the change visible is by taking pictures of (almost) the same place throughout the year.

This is what I did with a place near O.K.'s, the view towards Schloss Ortenberg (Ortenberg Castle) from one of the paths we're on regularly for walking or running.

Spring
Summer
Autumn
Winter
Vineyards in March
Nearly the same view in October

Speaking of which, I have not been running since before Christmas - it is simply too cold, and sometimes too wet, for me right now. I miss it, and hope I'll be able to go for a nice leisurely run again soon.

Anyway, I hope no matter what the season in your part of the globe is right now, you are well and enjoying the good things each season can bring.

  1. Where I live, in the Pacific Nortwest of the U.S. we have been housebound for a week with ice and snow. This is unusual for us, we get a lot of rain but not much ice and snow. I have ordered food from a grocery that makes home deliveries but it will be Thursday afternoon before it arrives as their schedule was booked until that time. Next in our forecast is heavy rain starting tonight and lasting for several days. Then we will experience flooding.

    1. That sounds like home is the best place to be for you right now, Linda! I hope you and yours won't be affected by the flooding.

  2. We have had warm, almost spring-like temperatures here in South Carolina for a week now after a very cold few days. It's strange weather right now!

    Your photos are so beautiful!

    1. It has been sunny and beautiful yesterday, but cold. On our way home from a business meeting, RJ and I drove along the motorway and were looking at a wonderful sunset - usually that means more sun today.

Thank you! The winter pictures are a bit blurry, but it was a bit misty and visibility wasn't all that good at that moment.

  3. We have had some lovely days recently and although snow was forecast we haven't had any on Merseyside yet.

    1. It has not snowed again, but it is really cold at night (-12 Celsius or so) under a clear sky.

  4. That's a great sequence of photos. And a beautiful part of the world. I was thinking about going for a run again; I thought about it last month too :-)

    1. Thank you, Mike!
I do some rope-skipping when I can not go for a run, but of course that's a very meagre substitute.
Maybe you'll think again about running next month :-)

  5. I hope you have a chance to go running soon! We have been having unusually warm weather here. In fact, yesterday was a 40 year record, nearly 70degree Fahrenheit (21Celcius). I love this kind of four seasons series of photos or paintings. I never want to live where it is always summer (even though I wouldn't mind visiting to a while when it is really cold here).

    1. What, 21 Celsius in your place in January!! I always had your area down as a bit colder than where I live, most of the time anyway. Weird!
-7 C as we speak, according to the weather app on my mobile phone...
Like you, I would not want to live in a place without distinguishable seasons.

  6. Ah, you should be here in Georgia...it is recording breaking heat! Well, record breaking for January, anyway...it is in the 70's during the day, which is very warm for this time of year! A bit under the weather myself, but I hope to be better soon!

    1. Sorry to hear you're not well, Kay. I hope you can get some rest this weekend - or maybe a nice walk/hike on Stone or Arabia Mountain is just what you need?

  7. You are right Meike - it is fascinating to see the same view in different seasons and your first four pictures demonstrate seasonal change very well - as O.K. yells, "Come on my dear, stop taking photos and let's get walking!"

    1. He is used to me taking pictures - sometimes he takes a few, too, and kindly allows me to use them on my blog.
And besides, he would never yell at me :-D

    2. If you stamped on his foot he would yell at you!

    3. True! And now I remember that I once accidentally bumped my head against his, which made us both cry out (if not yell).

  8. Nice comparison pictures from the different seasons. Around here, this year, the weather seems unable to make up its mind. One day snow, the next rain, then back to ice and snow. And so on and so forth...!

    1. It's been fairly consistent here for a while now, and apparently is meant to stay that way for several more days. What worries me a little is the dryness. It oculd either mean that we're in for a prolonged period of rain later on, or that spring will be way too dry altogether.

  9. It's surprisingly sunny and bright here in London and I'm appreciating it.

    1. I know you are often out and about on your bike, so sunny and bright will be good for that, too.
