My Choice

Yesterday was a day very much to my liking: I worked from home (my sister would say that I "worked" from home...), had a delicious home-cooked lunch at my Mum's, went to the gym with a friend after work, and then to the shop where my sister helped me to look at wallpapers last week.

This time, I went there to tell the people at the shop which wallpapers I have chosen, to find matching paint for the other three walls in each room and the dividing line between walls and ceiling. So far, this line has been painted a deep, warm terracotta shade, chosen by Steve and matching the general colour theme in our rooms. The only exception is my current bedroom, where the line is in a strong blue shade to match the one light blue and the other three pale yellow walls.

Here's what I've come up with:

The "feature wall" in the living room is going to have the grey version, and my bedroom the blue.

The three other walls in both rooms are going to be done in this yellow.

In the living room, the line between walls and ceiling will be painted like this. (Of course, each computer monitors shows colours in a shlightly different way, so if the grey does not match the wallpaper for you, don't worry - in reality, it matches perfectly.)

For the line in the bedroom, I have chosen this light blue. It is exactly the same as the flowers on the wallpaper.

Next Monday, Mr. PaintShop will come to have a look at my place, see what exactly I want to have done and then give me his cost estimate. I have absolutely no idea what to expect in terms of money, but I have options. If it seems too much, I'll only let the professionals do the wallpapering and will ask a friend (who is very good at this) to do the painting for me. Of course, he'll be paid as well.

It's going to be fun!

  1. I think you have chosen well and the colours remind me of Spring. Grey is very 'in' at the moment.

    1. Thank you, Maggie. I didn't know that grey is "in"; I've always liked it in combination with yellow, turquoise and pink (and some other colours, too).

  2. I love it that you are wallpapering. I don't know anyone who has wallpaper in their houses. I've found myself nostalgic for it lately. Please post when you are all done. Your choices are great! Cheerful!

    1. Only one wall in each of the two rooms will be wallpapered. Four walls would probably be a bit much :-)
Of course I am going to post when it will be all done - but that won't be before April or May.

  3. I love the paint colors you've chosen - hope the painter does a good job.
Your walls will certainly look beautiful for Spring - if it ever arrives!!!

    Happy week -

    1. Thank you, Mary!
I know the painter will do a good job, if I ask my friend to do it :-)
And of course I expect my walls to look beautiful all year round!

  5. I don't know the layout of your flat, but I can imagine these choices of colours and wallpaper giving a nice "flow" of continuity and yet giving each room its own character. [When choosing wallpapers for my flat I kept to matching colours but different patterns, for much the same purpose. :)]

    1. That thought of continuity while still allowing each room its own character was behind my choice, too, Monica.
The other rooms - Third Room, kitchen and bathroom - are not going to be touched (not yet).

  6. I love the choice of paper and I could certainly live with the colours too. What they will all look like when finished is, however, beyond my capabilities to imagine. I look forward to seing the finiahed result though.

    1. Me too, Graham, me too! And I can't wait - now that I have made my choice, I'd love to start right this weekend, but of course it won't happen until it gets warm enough to keep windows open and have longer daylight hours to do all the work.

    1. Thank you, Kristi! Friendly I am sure, warm maybe, although the blue and the grey are rather "cool" colours - much more my thing than the warm, earthy shades Steve preferred.

  8. I have to put in another comment just to tell you that I saw your wallpaper on TV today - the one with grey background! It was used in a room in a British home makeover show. It's not one of those I usually watch, I just happened to zap to that channel towards the end of an episode as they were going through the house they'd been refurbishing. And in one of the rooms there was your wallpaper on the wall! ... looking good ... ;)

    1. That's interesting, Monica, thank you for telling me! Can you give me the name of the show? I can then try to find the episode on youtube and see how "my" wallpaper looks in a finished room.

    2. Meike, it took some searching because I only had the Swedish name of the show and no season/episode number. Today I managed in roundabout ways to track it down, though. The show is 'DIY SOS' (BBC One), Season 24, Episode 1. Try this link and it should take you to a picture with the wallpaper.

    3. Indeed, that is "my" wallpaper! Looks great! Thank you very much, Monica, for finding this for me.

  10. I like the fact that the two wallpapers have complementary designs. They have a Japanese quality about them and appear restful. Will you be buying a silk kimono?

    1. No silk kimono on the horizon, but there are already a few silky items in my wardrobe, and several Cheongsam dresses. OK, so they're not Japanese, but... Asian enough for me.
