Has It Ever Been So Early?

Early in the year, I mean, for snow.
Because this morning I woke up to find the view from my kitchen window like this:

And now, two hours later, it looks like this:

Dear me, isn't winter long enough already without it starting to snow at the end of October?!

According to the forecast, it'll warm up again a bit by the middle of next week; at the moment, it is 0 Celsius (32 F) out there, and should get back up to somewhere around 7 or 8 Celsius (46 F) on Wednesday, which will put an end to any snow that might still be around by then.

I'd much rather enjoy another three or four weeks of Golden October!

Anyway, if it is anything like this where you are, and you have started thinking about getting some nice presents for your loved ones (or for yourself), individual and useful at the same time, you are very welcome to browse my Mum's Etsy shop for her hand-knitted socks and woolly hats - she also does requests, if you can't find the colour, shape or size you are looking for :-) The pictures on the top left corner of my blog take you there.

Addendum: My Mum sent me a set of pictures, taken today on her balcony, where until yesterday, the beautiful autumn flowers were still basking in the autumn sun: When I wanted to upload it just now, I had once again the message about me having run out of space... This comes up every now and then, but usually, a day or two later, everything is back to normal and I can upload pictures again without having made any changes.

Addendum II: A smaller version of the pictures worked fine this morning:

  1. I was going to do a post yesterday morning saying that it had snowed - just a flurry but it was snow. Then we had sleet. It was winter yesterday. After two idyllic days at the start of the week when I worked in the garden in shirt sleeves all day yesterday was a bit of a shock. I'm glad that I didn't show my pathetic photos though because you would have laughed and I would have felt ashamed at what I had called snow! Only five sleeps before I remove myself to warmer climes. I'm not looking forward to the day when I have to do winters again.

    1. Please don't let my post stop you from posting about your own snow, Graham! We're not in a "who has the most snow" contest here, are we :-)
I'm glad that it should all be gone by next week, I really don't want to get out my boots and padded coats and all that stuff just yet...

  2. I love the pictures from your kitchen window. Here in Perth, Westen Australia, we have a weekend of 35/34 celcius, so i am stuck i side with the air conditioner going. The forecast for next week is a 10 degree drop -much more civilised for October weather. Plenty of time for 30s and indeed 40s in january and February.

    1. I'd swop with you anytime - 35 Celsius is much more what I feel comfortable at than 0 Celsius!

  3. Oh, yes, it's getting near the time to check out your mum's socks! (it's cold in London too, but not below freezing). I will drop a hint about the socks to family members.

    1. It's supposed to be another cold day here tomorrow, but then it should get warmer again. Still cold enough for woolly socks, though :-)

  4. I know it is early for you but I love your photos of snow! And even as an adult, do you still make a snowman, if you have enough to make one? I am afraid that I do, my son and I made one a few years ago during a magificent snowfall that we had, and even though she turned into a snowlady, we had such fun making her!
Glad you reminded me of your Mum's socks, it was in the 80's yesterday, so I am not thinking of cold weather just yet, but it is around the corner from us!
And hey, glad you have those warm running pants, but maybe better wait until the snow is gone to run, eh?

    1. Oh no, Kay, I wouldn't dream of running in this kind of weather, no matter how warm my running pants are - it's my running shoes that wouldn't keep the cold and wet out (they are not made for anything other than dry weather), plus it wouldn't be good for my breathing at this kind of temperature. And until the cough is well and truly gone, I won't run or go to the gym anyway.

I can't remember when I last made a snowman (or snow-woman); usually I try to spend as little time out in the cold as possible :-)

  5. We have what is merrily called "the wind chill factor" in force today. I'm gearing myself up to go out in it....

    1. Yes, I have to go out, too; my fridge needs restocking and I have eaten all the fruit in my fruit bowl and somehow these things don't just turn up at the door on their own accord.

  6. O! What a beautiful early dawn picture! Enjoy your snow -- over here on our tropical island we're "enjoying" continual 32 degree sun haha.. Off to check out your mum's shop now :)

    1. 32 Celsius is much nicer than 0! But I suppose I'd get bored with it eventually if there was never any variation in the weather. Thank you for stopping by my blog and commenting!

  7. Yeah we had snow just north of Sheffield at around 6 o'clock last night. The first frost was very early here so I'm not surprised the snow has arrived early. Although it's bright, sunny and fairly warm today.

    1. It hasn't stopped snowing since I got up, not even for a minute... But from what the forecast says, we should get our bright sunny days back next week :-)

  8. It had been in the 80s the day before yesterday and now it's nearer half that. Of course, we are waiting for the influence of hurricane Sandy! My daughter who lives in Maryland, down where the Potomac goes into Chesapeake Bay, was told by the college where she teaches to unplug everything electric and put such things on top of her desk or on a table because they expect the building to flood. But I believe we will have warmer weather again by Wednesday when the influence of this hurricane leaves.

    1. Oh dear! I do hope neither you nor your family and friends are going to be adversely affected by Sandy.

  9. You have snow! and we don't! We have frost though, the last few nights have been very cold, and it's still frosty outside as I write this. I agree October is much too early for snow to be welcome. Aside from that, the view from your window looks quite pretty.

    1. Today, it is even prettier, Monica - the sun is out, blue sky, yellow leaves and white snow, a wonderful combination of colours.

  10. Ooo, I love snow pictures, Meike, but agree that October is much too early. Apparently it even snowed in the south of France, but not with us in Wales, though eastern Scotland had quite a fall.

    1. It really does look odd with the yellow leaves and beautiful autumn flowers still around! My Mum said today that she can only remember it having snowed here so early in the year once, when she was still a girl, long before I was born.
