Enough Already!

As is my habit, today I am once again linking to one of my own older posts about the subject of colours and how they influence our mood.

Like millions of other people, I have really had enough of winter and want to see sunshine, butterflies and flowers!
And this year, it is not just the general being sick and tired of darkness and cold: The other day it was said on the news on German telly that we're having the least sunny February in 50 years.

Another monochrome morning on Monday.
Only very few splashes of colour out there, such as the orange hardhat on the man cutting the tree in my neighbour's garden.

No wonder, then, that people get listless and feel like sleeping all the time.
Of course, there are ways of counter-balancing this lack of light. One recommendation is to make use of the little light there is; even by being outside on an overcast day for a mere 15 minutes exposes your body to more lux than an entire day under the artificial lights at the office. Some people have special lamps installed that emit light with the same wavelength as the sun. And of course, you can give yourself (and others) a little boost by wearing bright, cheerful colours:

The little yellow notebook I found when helping my sister move her books and book cases last Saturday (she has her floors done, and everything needs shifting). The notebook has never been used; yellow is my favourite colour, and so my sister let me keep it.
Thank you, sis!

Oh, and my orchid is finally blossoming again:

  1. I agree... Light and colour make a difference. I often wear magenta or various shades of red in winter.

    1. And you put up your beautiful yellow kitchen curtain and cheerful bright table cloth, as we've seen on your blog today :-)

  2. I do hope sunshine returns to Germany! I live just south of Lake Erie and we are one of the places in the US with the least sunshine. When we have a sunny day, it's wonderful and I can tell right away that my spirits have risen. Your outfit is a good one for making people around you more cheerful! I love it!

    1. Thank you, Kristi! Apparently, only a few more days, and we should actually see some sun this coming weekend.

  3. I so miss the sunshine and warm weather too! I can not wait. I know you are right that we should spend time outdoors everyday even in the cold but I just do not like to be outside in the cold. Your outfit was very cute and cheerful! I do not know what excercise/health regime you follow but you keep so slim.I really admire that and you always look so stylish. I am quite the opposite of you quite short and not so slim, lol. This was the first time I have noticed your floor in the photos. That is such a beautiful pattern you have on your floors! My husband would just love them. Your orchid looks beautiful.

    1. Thank you, Janice! The floor is just laminate, it was already in the flat when I bought it ten years ago. There is no particular regime I follow; bread, cheese and chocolate are my staple foods, but I do get plenty of exercise just by not having a car and walking practically everywhere.

  4. Yes, one of the best things about our recent trip to Florida was just seeing the bright blue sky and the glittering water. And the wonderful deep green of the springs, like a pirate island! We do have some blue sky in England today, and I hope the clouds will clear in Germany, too, soon.

Meanwhile your yellow notebook is a lovely splash of sunshine!

  5. Yet another good reason to so order your life that you can spend winters in Tahiti.

  6. And not just in Germany, Meike. We've barely seen the sun all month in my bit of wales either, which is why I'm busy knitting rainbow-coloured socks. :-)

    PS Love your dress.

    Love the orchid blooming.
Hopefully, you will have the most beautiful month of March to follow your colorless month of February!

    1. We're finally having milder temperatures and have even seen a few sunny days! It is going to cool down again, though, and most likely will be raining this weekend. Never mind, life is colourful enough at the moment :-)
