Off to Ripley!

As I said in my previous post, we gave up on our original plan of walking all the way to Ripley and took the bus from Wormald Green instead. Walking would have been possible, but not very nice (and dangerous) along the road; also, it would have taken us at least another 2 hours, which would have timed our arrival there so late the castle grounds would not have been open for much longer.

First, we had a walk outside the castle grounds. Then, we went to the beautiful church. I have blogged about it before; you can find the old post with some more information here. The castle grounds were next.

There was this little fellow - I think he lives in the church, always there to give people a bear hug!

Next up will be more of Ripley castle and its beautiful park.

  1. That little fellow is probably the vicar - The Reverend Teddy Bear.

    1. He looked very welcoming, but a little lonely.

  2. Love the little bear! I have to be a bit jealous of places that have so much history and beautiful landmarks. No one lived in our area before the early 1800s. Not even any American Indians lived here, though it was on a migration route they used. But the natural beauty and all the seasons are very satisfying.

    1. Yes, I could not NOT take a picture of the bear!
Everywhere over here is full of history, as you know; but I wonder what it feels like to know your family has lived in the same castle for over 700 years, as is the case with the Ingilby family of Ripley.

    1. This is your third comment here, and like the other two, you have simply copied & pasted someone else's comment. At least that is my impression. If that is your way to creating more clicks on your own blog, then I politely ask you not to use my blog for this purpose. Thank you.

  4. Waking on roads is no fun. Getting a bus is no fun. However it's quicker and less dangerous so no contest in my book. I'm glad that you had more time to enjoy the grounds and church. As for Bear well I hope that he gave you both a hug for luck.

    1. Actually, getting a bus in such beautiful countryside IS fun - especially if it is a double-decker and you get to sit at the front on the top deck! From there, you have a view of the landscape (and the occasional glimpse over garden walls) you can never have from a car :-)
