The view from our room before breakfast on Friday |
Until the rain let up, we remained in our room for some reading and resting.
The sun made a tentative appearance mid afternoon, and so after coffee and cake, we donned our rain jackets (just in case), grabbed our rucksacks and walked through the centre of Naturns, which so far we had explored only superficially.
We stopped at the very modern museum dedicated to the mountains of the Texel group (the name of the mountain formation rising behind and above Naturns), explaining about the geology, geography, flora, fauna and partly the cultural history of the area, mainly (again) about the irrigation system I have already described.
The weather had improved, as you can see. The building is part of the museum. Very modern! |
The river was higher and the colour of the water looked milky due to the recent rain. |
The tunnel at the bottom of the mountain leads into the Schnals valley. |
There on the corner is a relatively large permanent indoor farmers market, where a good dozen of local farmers sell their produce, ranging from fruit and vegetables to pasta, bacon, cheese, jam, schnaps, liquor, wine, honey, bread and more.
We bought some edible souvenirs for our families back home as well as for ourselves, shouldered our rucksacks again and walked back on the narrow footpath along the river.
Oh, I love those morning photos of the clouds low in the mountains and then that last lovely shot of those rolling hills under the blue skies. Terrific, Meike! You and O.K. sure know how to have fun on your holidays.
ReplyDeleteOur holidays may seem boring to those of a more adventurous spirit, since we nearly always book a spa hotel somewhere in the mountains instead of flying to exotic destinations or exciting city trips, but we find that this works best for us.
DeleteMy favourite picture of that day is the view towards the evening sun.
Those clouds are impressive.
ReplyDeleteThey really were the best part of that day, weather-wise.
