Little Things

...mean a lot to me; always, and even more so this time of the year. It is - apart from when I am hosting a party - the only time I really want ornaments and other decorative items in my flat. Last Saturday, I put up the first Christmassy things in time for the 1st of the four Advent Sundays.

You can see what I did in the past years in these older posts:
Advent 2010
Advent 2012
Advent 2013
As you can see, I did not do a specific Advent post in 2011, but my flat looked pretty much the same then as in the other years.
If you look closely, you will recognize a few items, and you'll see how the collection of cards under the glass plate on the desk in the Third Room is growing year after year. Maybe you'll even spot a card you sent to me :-)

From one of my aunts in Yorkshire, I've already received the first card and present of this year. Usually, it was always my Auntie Vonnie; this time, Auntie Jean was quicker. My cards are going to be written this coming weekend, and I will then also put together the parcel with the presents for the family in England.

But until then, there are two more work days ahead, and I better get started!

  1. It's such fun to "deck the halls!"

    1. It is! But I must admit I also like it when, on the 6th of January, I put everything away for another year and have my clean empty spaces back.

  2. What a brilliant way to deal with cards. Much better than having them all blow over every time there's a draught.

    1. The new arrivals are always put on the sideboard in the living room, but that corner never really gets hit by draught when I open the windows.

  3. Oh yes Time for your party! I am remembering them now from the past few years, I think!
And yes, I spy my card, it is the middle one with the angels! So tickled to see it here! Wish I could come to your party, I bet it will be great fun. xx

    1. I was hoping you'd spot your card, Kay. Yes, the party will be such fun! It's on the 12th, so you still have time to book a flight :-) My friend from Hamburg is coming this year, too; she'll stay the night of course.

  4. Your apartment always looks so neat and tidy. The spaces we live in speak volumes about who we are. There are probably observant psychologists who have reflected upon this subject..."Now Frau Meike I hev some qvestions to asking ov you".

    1. It does not just look it, it really IS neat and tidy most of the time. Oh yes, I am sure psychologists would have a hey day analyzing me by looking at my flat. It certainly is not the typical Librarian's place - not enough books here.

    2. I think you need lots of cuddly toys - rabbits, tigers, zebras and of course teddy bears!

  5. I have never been one for Christmas decorations and this year I have given the last two boxes away to a friend who is a great lover of her decorations and Christmas tree. She' however, takes everything down as soon as Boxing Day is over.

    1. When Steve was still alive, he made our flat look like an extension of the Christmas Market, with strings of lights all over, and garlands and things. He just loved it, and since he was home much more than I was and did nearly all the cleaning, I didn't have anything against it. But ever since it has just been me on my own, I've very much reduced decoration. I still insist on the things I've known since earliest childhood, though; such as an Advent calendar and a wreath.
