That starting point was at a game enclosure, part of the National Park and meant to show visitors the kind of animals that used to live in the Bavarian Forest at one time - bears, wolves, lynx, deer, otters, birds of prey, and more. Nowadays, efforts are made to reintroduce lynx (successfully); deer have never been completely gone.
Our tour according to the guide book took us through about one third of the game enclosure. It was all beautiful woodland again. For the way back, instead of waiting for a bus, we decided to walk - it wasn't all that far, although the last bit was rather exhausting, with a long uphill stretch.

This sounds like another wonderful day with a great mix of hiking in the forest and resting at the spa. I smiled when I saw that a fence seemed to be protecting you from the sheep but not from the bear. How does that work? Is the game enclosure large enough to give the animals enough room to roam naturally?
ReplyDeleteThe game enclosure is split up into zones for the various animals, and there are fences, of course - I simply zoomed in when I took the photo :-)
DeleteI am always in two minds about zoos etc.; they really make an effort to provide the animals with as much of a natural habitat as possible, but they are still in captivity.
I made pretty much the same reflection as Thickethouse... The sheep don't look too happy about their situation ;) Did you see any lynx? In my experience (our local zoo!) they're very people-shy (and camera-shy)...
ReplyDeleteNo, I did not see any lynx, but who knows - maybe they saw me!
DeleteAnother lovely walk! And poor you, you just had to book that massage! :-) xx
ReplyDeleteWell, someone had to do it ;-)
