September Holiday - Fifth Day

Thursday, the 12th of September, was the fifth day of our holiday, and we chose a rather relaxed, slow pace for it. We had booked massages for the afternoon and therefore had to make sure to be back at the hotel in time.

Morning light over the lake, as seen from our window.
Like on our first day, we borrowed bikes, but this time cycled in the opposite direction. It was market day in Techendorf, the biggest community on Lake Weissensee, and we strolled around the stalls offering anything from hand-made baskets to bacon, jewellery to soaps. There had been hope to find a specific souvenir O.K. was looking for, but that particular stall wasn't there that day.

Back to the hotel to leave the bikes, and the same route back again on foot, to the chair lift that had been closed on Monday. I love chairlifts, especially the open kind where you are not enclosed in a cabin. This one takes you from Techendorf up to the height of Naggler Alm in 12 minutes.

We walked along the rim for a while and then back down to Naggl, where we had got off the ship the other day. Today, we boarded the ship there, and crossed the lake to "our" side. Coffee and cake was ready when we arrived at the hotel, and we had time for a rest in the sun before our massage appointments.

Afterwards, we met at the sauna, then dinner.
Another lovely day, and the most relaxing so far, with only about 11 km of walking, and good weather throughout.

  1. Lovely pictures - when enlarged but it's disappointing that there are no massage or sauna pictures!

    1. Taking pictures in the sauna would have been difficult, as I wouldn't have known where to put my camera.

  2. I like chairlifts also - wonderful way to get great photos of the landscape. Coffee and cake, massage and then a sauna - great way to end the afternoon!

  3. I've just been thinking when I read that you love open chair lifts. So do I. Which is odd given that if I've got my feet on the ground on an arête I really don't like the distance below me. The photos just make me somewhere between envious and wistful.

    1. I still don't know what an arête is, but yes, I love such chair lifts; I am generally not troubled by heights but a slight feeling of discomfort is creeping in the older I get, when I walk difficult paths with steep drops.

    2. PS: I have now read your explanation of "arête", thank you!
