Possibly The Last...

...snowy pictures on my blog for a while!
The weather forecast for my area says that by Wednesday, we can expect up to 16 Celsius (that's around 60 F) - seems too good to be true when for the last weeks, we were always below zero (in the 20s F) and I was only able to leave the house bundled up in layers of clothing, feeling as immobile as the Michelin man.

Dare I hope that was it, winter-wise?
No. I wish our seasons were as reliable as that! It is safe to assume instead that, after a short, mild spell, there'll be more cold and snow, or cold and rain.

But right now, I am looking forward to the middle of next week, not only because of the promised rise in temperature: it is my Dad's birthday on Thursday, and although we won't have such a big "do" as last year for his 70th, it will still be an evening spent with friends and relatives, good food and conversation.

The pictures were (obviously) taken at various times of day, and not all on the same day. The next-to-last one with the falling snow was taken from my bathroom window, and the one with the icicles shows the cherry tree outside my other kitchen window (the one where I feed the birds, as I showed you the other day).

  1. Enjoy the mild temperatures, as you are right, winter usually howls back with one more attempt to show its might in February.

  2. Lovely pictures. I must admit it was nice see to see greenery and sunshine again this morning, after a night of torrential rain washed away all the snow!

  3. Hello Meike:
As you say, the weather appears to be so extreme and totally unreliable. It is impossible to know what to expect next.

We do hope that you will have a really good time in celebration of your father's birthday this coming Thursday.

  4. Hi Meike, those snowy photos are an all to familiar sight to me! We've had frigid temps too and we're expected to have temps in the 50's next week - it seems there crazy weather everywhere!

  5. Yes I agree. Sounds just like our crazy weather here in the midwest. It has been frigid. Today we are getting ice but in 2 days time it is supposed to be 50 degrees (F). At least that will melt all the ice! But that will not last the cold will be back. here even if we get past the really frigid weather it will not really be spring until at least April. I am happy enough that even if we have to endure the snow at least the light is so much better and continuing to be more and more every day! I hate all that darkness. Your window views are very pretty!

Yes, the longer hours of daylight certainly help!

  8. I know it must be hard not being able to get out when it is snowy, but your photos of the snow look so beautiful! And I know what you mean, it will warm up, but the cold might be back as fierce as ever.
Now, I might have asked you before, but do you ever build a snowman? The kids here go CRAZY building snowmen when it does snow, even it they have to rake up all the snow in their yard to do so! Even the adults will get into it, especially if the snow is really snow and not mostly ice!

    1. Kay, I can't remember the last time I built a snowman - when I see snow, I run a mile :-D No, just kidding, it's not that bad as long as I can take pictures from the comfort of my warm flat... But I avoid being out in it for longer than absolutely necessary, such as when I go to work and have to walk to the station, wait around there and so on.
RJ and I did go for an hour-long walk in the snow the week before last, though, and enjoyed it.

  9. Your winter pictures are lovely! While we don't typically get snow very often in my neck of the woods, I can relate to getting bundled up like the Michelin Man! Glad to hear things warmed up last week.

    Thanks for your lovely comments.

    1. Thank you, Elizabeth! It has not warmed up yet, the forecast with the milder temperatures is for this week. In fact, this morning we have already 3 Celsius instead of -6 :-)

  11. Hi Meike,
I always enjoy your snow pictures, they're so beautiful. I'm facinated with snow because we so very seldom get any here.
    Have a great week,

  12. You live in a very pleasant Viertel to judge by your pictures. Good, solid houses and roomy gardens. I’ve never been to Ludwigsburg.

Whatever happens, let there not be much snow anymore. I know there’s plenty of winter to come yet, but I want to be free to go for easy walks again and not keep slipping on ice.

    1. It's a very "normal", down-to-earth Viertel, upper- to middle-middle class I'd say, and ideal for me: a 10 minute walk to the town centre, less than that to the Bahnhof, and about 15 minutes if I want to be out on the fields.

Yes, it will be nice to finally go out again without having to wear heavy winter boots and all that!

  13. I sometimes wonder what happens in my brain when I read a blog post. I read this whilst I was away at a friend's in Tauranga but didn't comment. Perhaps I couldn't think of anything to say. Yes, that's probably what it was. I can't think of anything to say tonight either!

    1. You managed to clothe that into some very nice words though, Graham!
I sometimes do not comment on someone's blogs when I feel that what I'd like to say about the subject would offend either them or some of their readers, and I certainly do not comment to offend, but to a) give the blogger the feedback he or she undoubtedly appreciates and b) possibly even enter into a dialogue with them.
And sometimes my reason for not commenting is plain and simple: I really don't have anything to say!
