Atlas Fountain and Walled Gardens

Believe it or not, this is the last post about my 2015 Yorkshire Holiday.
After the Temple of the Four Winds, we walked down a slope past beautiful statues and across a time capsule to have a closer look at the Atlas fountain, which we'd already seen from inside the house.

Next, we entered the walled gardens, which were beautiful - although I must admit I felt more "at home" in Ripley castle's ones.

Back to the courtyard where we began, we browsed the shops for a bit. By now, we were truly ready for some refreshment and had excellent cakes and tea/coffee at the Courtyard Café before the drive home.

It had been our last day, and we spent the evening packing and getting the cottage ready for tomorrow's returning the key to its owners.
Bye-bye Yorkshire for another year!

  1. The time capsule is rather astonishing. Not to be opened until 3982? I wonder what the chances of that happening at the time appointed are. A lot is going to happen in that length of time.......Do you know what is in it?

    1. No, I don't know what's in it. But we did indeed wonder whether people - if there will still be any around then - will understand English and know what is expected of them...

  2. Oh, how lovely. You really make me want to go to Yorkshire! AND I wanted to see it when I read the books by James Herriot, as you know! The gardens, I think that is what I would like to see the most.
I really enjoy your visits to Yorkshire. Next year, take ME!!

    1. You are most welcome to join us there, dear Kay :-) You could book a room at Box Tree Cottages which is the same building as our cottage, just with an extra entrance, and I'd show you all my favourite places!

    2. That sounds wonderful! Maybe one day I will actually get further north than London when I am in England! I would love to see all your favorite places, I feel as if I have been there already from your blog!

  3. I've always had a penchant for walled gardens although I'm not quite sure why. Perhaps it's something to do with security or perhaps it implies order. In any case this one looks like somewhere I could happily lose myself in my thoughts for a while.

    1. Same here, Graham, and I think having read "The Secret Garden" made me like walled gardens even more, because I now associate them with that wonderful book.
