More Wintery Things

This week has been rather mild, weather-wise, and often overcast. We did see a very impressive full moon for the last two nights, though, and it was still very big and very much there at 8:00 in the morning. I took photos of the night sky but they are still on my camera and will have to wait for another post on another day.

After work today, I will be travelling to O.K.'s for the weekend. Before I leave, here are a few wintery pictures I took earlier this month:

This one was on the 7th, some time between 9:00 and 10:00 in the morning:

What a difference the next morning!

And since i have been travelling back and forth several times this month already, with about 15 minutes to spare between trains, I took pictures of the Christmas decorations at the train stations:

I really don't know why the one with the tree (taken at Karlsruhe main station) is so blurry - I used the camera on my mobile phone, which is now a newer model than my former phone and I know it can do better than that. The one at Stuttgart main station was also taken with my phone, amidst a bustling crowd with very little time and space to stop.

The last pictures are from my uncle again, I found them too beautiful to keep them to myself:

A wonderful weekend to all of you! Don't let the pre-Christmas madness get to you; remember: it's the same every year, and it will be here regardless of what you have prepared (or not) :-)

  1. Good advice :) On the other hand, a little madness sometimes seem to belong in the tradition, so to say :) This week we've had a bit of frost here but no snow. Probably won't have snow around here for Christmas either, this year. (Some years we do, some years we don't.)

    1. It is similar here; some years, we have a white Christmas, sometimes a green, brown or grey one :-)
There certainly are more things lined up to do after work this time of year, such as office parties, gatherings wirh friends and visitting Christmas markets. But for me, it is all pleasant and stress-free, thankfully.

  2. It is funny how they always "hide" Christmas at the end of December, isn't it?

    1. Yes, it seems to happen all very sudden and out of the blue for a lot of people :-)

  3. Germany is always so beautiful at Christmas time.

    1. As I have never spent Christmas anywhere else, I have not much to compare it to except what I've read or seen in films from other countries.

  4. Beautiful photos! We are having a winter wonderland here in north Ohio. Much colder than is usual for this time of year. Today we celebrate the birthday of my oldest grandson, so slightly different focus. And I believe all my gifts are ready....But still lots to do...Enjoy your weekend, Meike.

    1. Thank you, Kristi! Happy Birthday to Nathan (or is he not your oldest grandson?), I am sure this means another one of your lovely family gatherings. Enjoy the celebration and your winter wonderland!

  5. Christmas looks so magical in Germany. Everything here is so crass and commercialized that there doesn't seem to be much magic.

    1. We do have the crass and commercialized here, too, just maybe not level as you do. Over the last 5-10 years, I have observed a tendency to glamourize Christmas here more and more, but there are still many who prefer the more traditional and more modest approach.

  6. Well, I hope you had a nice weekend Meike and even though you are back at work, it won't be long to Christmas. By the way, when I saw the spelling "wintery" I thought you had made a rare mistake as "wintry" is the most usual spelling but it seems that "wintery" is also allowed.

    1. Thank you, my weekend was very nice indeed, and I know these last days of work will whirl past and it'll be Christmas Eve in no time.
Actually, I wasn't thinking much about spelling when I wrote "wintery". I thought of the opposite of "summery", but I am glad to hear I was not totally wrong.

  7. I agree that your last picture is absolutely gorgeous, the trees remind me of dancers gathered together down on the plain.

    1. It is, isn't it! What a lovely comparison with the dancers.
If I am not mistaken, it is the view from my Uncle's attic window.

  8. The last two photos could be made into cards! I like the ones you made too, they show us what it looks like there! Hope you have a happy holiday with OK and your family.

    1. You're right, my Uncle's pictures would make excellent cards, or calendar images.
Thank you, Kay! I am sure we'll read each other again before Christmas, but in case we don't, best holiday wishes to your and your family, too!
