A Catty Interlude

If you've been reading my blog for a while, maybe you know that I love cats. There were almost always cats in our family when I grew up, but when my old cat died in 2013, I wisely decided not to have another one live with me - it would just be highly unfair to the animal, what with me being always out and about, and away many weekends.

All the more do I enjoy meeting cats elsewhere. During our September holiday, we had quite a few "catty" encounters. On the farm/hotel grounds, two young and at least one elderly cat were living. You already saw one of them on my previous post, sunbathing on a stack of firewood.

At the second hotel where we stayed for the last two nights of our holiday, there was also a cat around.

Here is a collection of snapshots I took on various days during our holiday:

They were all friendly and playful, not at all shy, well used to visitors. And can anything look more relaxed than a cat relaxing in the sun?

  1. We always make friends with cats and give them names, except for Ginger George who looks exactly like our Phoebe except he's a lot bigger and terrorises her. And we mustn't encourage black kitty who also lives nearby because Phoebe chase her away.

    1. Your cat's enemies can of course not be your (close) friends. Isn't it funny how cats are sometimes friendly with nearly all humans but nasty with other cats?

  2. When I see black and white "tuxedo" cats I always think of my grandfather. He loved them, although his last cat was a big all-black tomcat called Tom Dooley. :) That was a nice memory to have this morning. Thank you for triggering it!

    1. It was really nice and warm when I took these pictures. The black and white one was so playful, entertaining him/herself between the chair and table legs.

  4. I have to see cats from a safe distance or in photos because, alas, I am terribly allergic to them.

    1. That's a shame, Kristi! Are you also allergic to dogs? I am of course thinking of the sweet dog that lives with one of your daughter's family.

  5. I am allergic to some dogs. Not to others. Poodles, whose hair is microscopically like human hair, do not bother me and neither does Pepper. Schnauzers are another breed I am not allergic to.

  6. Cats are cats the world around, and they are "connoisseurs of comfort" as James Herriot noted.

    1. The ones we met around the farm/hotel felt so completely at home, it was a pleasure to watch them.

  7. Dear friend - just quick comments as I'm packing to leave tomorrow and today is crazy. I'm taking a break as I feel a headache coming on! I'm drinking lots of water now. I've been looking at all the beautiful scenery in your many posts. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous area.

    1. You are very welcome, dear Mary, and thank you for taking time out of your busy packing day to read and comment!
I hope the headache subsides with a bit of rest and plenty of water.

  8. Cat's will always get plenty of comments. I'm content with cats provided they are someone else's and are looked after. Feral cats are a major problem in New Zealand and becoming a problem in parts of Lewis.

    1. Until 2013, at least one cat was always part of our household for as long as I can remember. Yes, they need looking after, but people are often carelessly letting them roam without having them neutered or vaccined.
