At 7:45 on the 7th of September, we set off for our holiday destination in Austria, 577 km away. The day was a mix of rain and sunshine, and we arrived at Neusach on lake Weissensee shortly before 3:00 pm - right in time for afternoon coffee and cake.
After checking in and unpacking, we both needed to stretch our legs a bit and took a short first walk around the place before it was time for dinner - which was a delicious four-course meal, all organic, superbly cooked and served by friendly staff.
The hotel is small, only 16 rooms in the two buildings, and it is just as much a family home and working farm as a hotel. You can find out more about the place on their website (in English, too) if you like.
This was going to be our home for the next 7 nights and days, and we knew we were going to enjoy our time here.
Here are the pictures I took that day:
The funny looking wardrobe soon held our rucksacks and rain coats (needed only once). The basket is provided by the hotel, containing sauna towels.
View from our room towards next door...
...and the lake:
The hotel as seen from the road. The larger main building contains the kitchen, dining rooms and "lounge" (if you can call it that - it was more like a living room in a private home). Our room was in the smaller building, to the back.
A road separateds the houses from the lake, but the hotel grounds continue on the other side of the road, with a large green meadow leading right down to the lake itself. The sauna house is there, as well as their own boat house and board walk onto the water. Two rowing boats and a board for standup paddling are available for the guests whenever they feel like using them.
View from the boardwalk eastwards across the lake:
The entire place, as seen from the boardwalk, and a swing - what's not to love!
I saw this shack during our first short walk and found it rather picturesque:
It had begun to rain again as we were heading back to the hotel. The garden is all part of the hotel grounds.
More to come tomorrow!
Oh, this looks wonderful. Thank you for providing the link to their website. I feel they will soon be inundated with booking enquiries. I am looking forward to seeing more.
ReplyDeleteYou will see a bit more in a few minutes, JayCee!
DeleteLooks nice, and very Austrian! :) Back in 1990 when I was on a bus tour in Germany and Austria we stayed a couple of nights in an Austrian village called Uttendorf. No hiking, but we went up Grossglockner by bus one day, and also visited Innsbruck and Saltzburg. On our day up on the top we were lucky enough to have sunny weather (so lovely views), but one of the other days we also drove through clouds hanging down over the mountain tops. So I have some memories of that kind of landscape... Looking forward to seeing more of your photos :)
ReplyDeleteMountain views are fascinating no matter the weather, I find, and I am glad you got to experience both sunny and cloudy times.
DeleteOn our way to Weissensee, we passed signs for the Großglockner.
It looks like an almost perfect place for a holiday: good accommodation, walking, water and mountains. I admit to a rather big twinge of envy.
ReplyDeleteMy blog posts never aim to make anyone envious, Graham (as you know of course), but yes, it is perfect for a holiday.
DeleteI just love the look of this special place - it's going on my 'wish list'.
ReplyDeleteI also checked their website - very lovely place.
And the photos on the website do not lie :-)
