September Holiday - First Day

Our first day was Sunday, the 8th of September, and is quickly told.

It had been raining over night and more rain was forecast for the day, but we took advantage of the few dry-ish hours in the morning and borrowed bikes from our hotel (for free - and super comfy they were!). A short tour of about 7 km took us as far along "our" side of the lake as the path allowed for cycling. Once it got too rocky (plus had signs that cycling was forbidden from a certain point onwards), we turned round. More or less at the same time, a slight drizzle began to fall, and so we put the bikes back into the huge barn, grabbed an umbrella and went walking in the opposite direction.

The rain was showing no signs of stopping, quite the contrary, and so after about 3.5 km on the road through our village and the next three, we walked back on a path along the lake. This gave us a good first impression of our surroundings, allowing us to spot shops and other places we might want to return to during the week (everything was closed on a Sunday).

Back at the hotel, the cosy lounge with comfortable settees and armchairs was just what we wanted - plus steaming mugs of tea and coffee, accompanied with luxurious chocolate and poppy seed cake.

The rest of the afternoon we spent at the sauna until it was time to get dressed for dinner (which was, just like breakfast, again excellent!).

No hiking and no specatcular mountain views today, but this was only the beginning of our holiday, after all.

  3. This reminded me of the old saying that there is no bad weather, only wrong clothes. You had a slightly low key first day but still managed to get some out of doors time and views of the nearby area. And lots of other relaxing and pleasant times in the sauna, with kaffee und kuchen and dinner.
