First of March

How much I like the first day of a month has been mentioned on my blog a few times already. This morning, though, I was certainly not hoping to wake up to Winter Wonderland:

I took this picture about half an hour ago... It has been (or at least felt!) colder the past few days than all winter. Well, it is not spring yet, not really! Flowers, birdsong, sunshine - that's what I am longing for, not snow. But of course I'll just have to take it as it comes, and although it sounds like I am whining like some spoilt brat, I am determined not to let this influence my usually good mood too much. It is going to be a long day at the office anyway, so I am not missing out on anything.

In contrast, look at this picture from November:

That day was so warm I kept my (very light) jacket off for most of the afternoon, and I wouldn't have been too cold in short sleeves.

Keep warm, whereever you are, and appreciate the sunshine if you have some in your area!

  1. Do you know the old saying about March? "In like a lion, out like a lamb" and vice versa? So you should have beautiful weather at the end of the month!

I'm typing this in the pre-sunrise darkness, but I expect that today will be sunny, warm, and utterly Spring-like over here. The past several days have been gorgeous.

    March is my favorite month!

    1. Yes, I've heard that saying before but have never actually checked whether it applies to the March weather in my area :-)
Beautiful weather at the end of the month would be much appreciated, as we'll all have a few days off over Easter.

  2. Well, it looks very pretty! At least when we get snow at this time of the year, it doesn't stay around for long. Easter is early this year, so it may surprise us with more snow!

    1. That snow was gone around lunch time already, I think (couldn't really see the ground from my office window).
We've often had snow in March and April, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was more to come.

  3. We had a frost last night and this morning there was rain but as I look out of my suburban Yorkshire window I can see blue gaps between the clouds with rays of sunshine. Time for lunch methinks. Work harder Meike!

    1. It was blue sky and sunshine yesterday afternoon, too, as I saw from my office window. By the time I left the office, little daylight was left; the street lights just came on as I rounded the corner of my street.

  4. We will have a very warm day today, with sun....Close to 60degrees Fahrenheit. But March is the most changeable month...The saying here is that it comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. But sometimes it is the other way around!

    1. I long for a warm day, Kristi! Last Saturday was nice, but only warm when in direct sunshine. I am glad I put the afternoon to good use and went out for a walk.

    2. Yesterday was like spring....Today, below freezing and more snow!

  5. As the old-timers say, the back of winter is broken now. No matter what the weather, the snow won't last and the warm weather will come.

    1. You are right, Nan, it will come. For me, rather sooner than later, I hope :-)

  6. The farmer has just told me that we may well wake up to snow in the morning.
And then our forecasters tell us that today is the first day of Spring. I shall stick to March 21st!

    1. March 21st it is for me, too.
Seeing another snowy morning here as late as April wouldn't be too unusual. Last year at Easter I think we had snow, and that was April.

  7. Well, March has come in like a lion here on our island, so I am hoping that it will go out like a lamb.
My eye was captured by your photo and I had to enlarge it. It's a lovely scene, so quiet and domestic. One doesn't often see the back view of a house like this.

    1. It's a view I enjoy every day first thing in the morning, no matter the weather! I think you haven't been reading my blog for long; otherwise by now maybe you'd be sick and tired of the same old scene :-)

  8. Your view of snow from your window is so pretty!
It was 72 degrees today, very warm but windy but tonight, we had a storm with
not just rain, but more wind and hail! That's weather for you, always changing!
Love the shot of you on your walk in the Autumn, it could be a painting.

    1. Thank you, Kay! I wasn't even aware of the photo being taken until I was shown afterwards.
The snow was all gone some hours later, and now there is no trace left of it. Much better for the little primroses, crocus and first daffodils appearing in my neighbour's garden!

  9. At least you are inside. I actually feel fed up if I have to be indoors when the weather is wonderful. I hope March improves weatherwise though, and we don't get our winter 3 months late!

    1. Yes, I'm inside all week, except for the short walk to the station and back, and waiting in the cold wind on platforms for my connecting trains. Good job my desk at the office is right next to the heating!

  10. It looks the same here! Winter all over the world... but spring is just around the corner. My daffodil leaves are peeking up from the soil, so spring cannot be far away!

    1. There's lots out there to suggest spring; birdsong, longer hours of daylight, flowers and so on. But I'll stick to my winter coat for the time being :-)

  11. The houses and gardens look so pretty in their light coating of snow. None here, but lots of sleety showers which make my face sting, and a very cold wind. I too am longing for spring (I always do once March comes around) and felt such a lift yesterday when I woke up and remembered that it was the first of the month. xx

    1. It does look pretty, admittedly, but would have been much more appreciated around Christmas :-)
Aren't we humans like spoiled kids sometimes? We want the world to be the way it suits us best, something that will never happen!

    1. Thank you, Cindy, and the same to you!

Well, it was a short-lived sight - a few hours later, all the snow was gone. But you can always look at it here :-)

  13. It feels so good to come back and catch up on blogs that I have missed the last year. I have been here, but just not blogging. I don't know what happened, I guess I needed a little break, but rest assured I am going to blog at least once a week. I can't wait to see the final results with the colors and wall papering! Happy to see you are well!

    1. Hello Linda, what a nice surprise! You've been away for a long time indeed, but I'm glad to read you're well and now back in blogland. Will go and check our your blog soon.
      Welcome back!

  14. It was probably in the high 20s/low 30s here (NZ) as you were writing that and, to be honest, that suits me well but sometimes at night I think genuine cool instead of air-con cool would be welcome.

    1. Air-con cool makes me very uncomfortable. Here in Germany, hardly anyone has airconditioning at home; maybe this will change if we have more summers of the kind we had last year.
