More Socks!!!

After several of you said you'd like to see my Mum's lovely hand-knitted socks on Etsy, she has just opened her very first, very own Etsy shop!

You can find the shop here; there is not much in it just yet, because of course my Mum wants to find out how it works at first, and see whether it'll work for her.

Remember how it all began? My Mum wrote this guest post, and we combined that with a giveaway which proved to be rather popular with you, dear readers, even meaning some new readers for me.
And who knows - me telling you here about the socks now being available on Etsy may very well mean some first customers for my Mum! (She does take requests, by the way...)

I am very proud of her, and hope the shop will do really well.

  1. Me too, its always a bit of a stomach churner when you open a shop, but its a gorgeous 'product' and I wish her much success!

  2. How cool! They are lovely socks, though not my size.

I wonder if your mum plans to put the descriptions in English too, or does the shop only operate within Germany? I think my German is actually good enough but I can't be totally SURE because I'm certainly not fluent.

I hope the shop does well.

    1. Hello Jenny, they come in all sizes really. The ones in her shop are just the smallest of choice, and she also takes requests for baby and childrens' socks as well as larger ones for men. Shipping is worldwide - her first sale to Kristi (see below) is going to the US :-)
In time, I guess the descriptions will follow in English as well. Yesterday was just the start.

    1. Dear Kristi, hooray - you are my Mum's very first Etsy customer!!! Thank you! Before I came here this morning, I had a look at Mum's shop and found that one pair of socks had already gone :-)

  4. I think that I've only ever once before visited an Etsy shop (a Blogger in the USA) and I have just assumed that it was an American thing. Now I know better. The post did make me curious, though, as to how many socks I had particularly as I have a drawer here and a drawer in New Zealand both of which are full (though the NZ drawer is smaller). I am ashamed to say that, despite having a clear-out since I came back a few weeks ago I still possess nearly 100 pairs here although, in my defence, I would say that I have changed the colours I usually wear over the years without throwing old ones away. I might, you see, go back to a colour again.

    1. Graham!! 100 pairs in just one of your places? Your socks drawer must be enormous! All my socks fit in a small plastic basket and although I have not counted them, I estimate there are about 20-30 pairs. Of course, as a woman, I do not wear socks with everything; often enough, it's tights and stockings or, preferably, going bare-legged whenever weather and occasion allow.

    2. 80 x 40 x 15 to be exact. Most of my socks are cotton though and a dozen or so are new and therefore flat and take up less space than the others. I also have small feet for my height. Just think Meike you have lived all these years without knowing such boring facts! They are not even likely to help you with the trivia questions in your pub quiz!

By the way it was very remiss of me. I got so carried away with socks I forgot to wish your Mum well with her venture.

    3. You have me laughing out loud here at my laptop (supposed to be working, which I am, but since I have already made two quite successful sales this morning, I can afford a quick visit in blogland) - I am imagining my team and I at the pub quiz and the landlord coming up with the question "How many pairs of socks does GB own?" :-D :-D :-D
And now, I simply had to go and count my socks: 33 pairs, this includes 5 hand-knitted pairs which I wear in place of slippers, 3 extra warm and long pairs I wear inside wellies in winter, and 2 pairs that are in the washing at the moment.

  5. Hello Meike:
We really do wish your mother every success with her new venture. These are difficult times but we are certain that she will succeed, not least because of the wonderful quality of her work.

    1. Dear Jane and Lance, thankfully, my parents' livelihood does not depend on her selling socks or other knitwear; she mainly does this for fun, but of course any additional income, however small, will be welcome, even though I suspect most of it will be invested in more knitting wool...!

  6. Hello at all,
thanks so much for your good wishes for my new Etsy-Shop, it is quite a new experience for me, to sell selfmade products! Before I always gave them away. Fortunately it is and stays only a hobby, I know, I will not win a fortune! But anyway it is exciting and funny, and I am looking forward for more buyers.

  7. I think it's a wonderful idea and I've never heard of an Etsy shop before. If you enjoy doing something, it's an extra bonus if you can make a little bit of money. Well done for getting this far Meike's Mum and good luck.

    1. Some of our fellow bloggers have Etsy shops, Maggie; Silke sells paintings, Julie sells pottery, to name two of them, but there are more. Thank you for wishing my Mum good luck!

  8. Sweet! I always found socks too daunting to try out...
Also you can have her shop as a link on your blog if you like. Just copy and paste an Etsy Mini into your html gadget...

Sonia, where do I get an Etsy Mini from, and where is my html gadget...?

    1. Thank you, Silke! And also thank you for adding my Mum's shop to your Etsy circle. This whole Etsy thing is still very new for us, and we had to look up what it means to be in someone's circle.
