Fashion Calendar: July

Finally, after a spell of very unstable weather with plenty of rain and temperatures too low for my liking (and for what one imagines for July in this part of the world), summer is back, and my summer dresses get a chance to be worn.

There was a new addition to my wardrobe a while ago, and no occasion yet to wear it. On the day my Mum and I went to the park (I blogged about that beautiful day here), on our way through the town centre we stopped at the shopping mall, and this little sun dress ended up being carried in a bag all the way around the park and back home.
I instantly liked the cheerful pattern and bright red of the skirt, and the bow to be tied at the back "did it" for me (have I ever mentioned that I really like bows and ribbons?).
The red mules I am wearing in the pictures are new, too; my Mum found them on ebay and surprised me with them upon my return from Lake Garda. They come from the same lady who sold the Laura Ashley dress that was on my Fashion Calendar in June.

Yesterday, at temperatures of almost 30C (that's about 90F), my sister and I met up in town with my Mum for ice cream. It was the perfect weather and the perfect occasion to wear this dress.
Today, we have reached above 30C, and I hope the forecast is not right... it says there will be rain showers on Saturday, and a drop to maybe as low as 19C on Sunday.
Well, until then, I am determined to make use of my summer dresses and wear a different one every day!

  1. This is amazingly cute. Such a classic combination and it looks terrific on you! Wow, what is it with the weather....I wish we would get out of the 90s. It's too much to have this much hot weather and I know Europe is just the opposite. I'm waiting for fall, but am amazed to see that we have only three more weeks here in Ohio before school begins again!

    1. Yes, it is a cute dress, isn't it! Three more weeks before school starts again in your area? Here, it was either the last day of school today or the first of the holidays, I'm not sure which one (not having kids myself and being long out of school means I easily lose track of such things).

  2. Great dress! I wish I could find something similar to wear to a reunion I have coming up in a couple of weeks. I'd ask to borro yours but I have a feeling it would never fit! :o) xoxox Carol

    1. Oh I am sure you'll find something pretty, Carol. Just don't go looking - go shopping with someone else instead, for them, not for yourself, and you'll end up finding just the perfect dress :-)

    2. What a great idea. You're right, one usually finds stuff when one isn't looking. Must be karma! Hugs, Carol

  3. I love the skirt. I have just remembered that my mum had a skirt like that when I was a child (I mean red with white spots) and I really loved it then, too. Sounds as if your weather is a bit like ours, so I agree, it's a good idea to make the most of it!

    1. We haven't had it quite as bad as in England, Jenny, but still not much of a summer really. Let's hope August and September will make up for that!

  4. You look fabulous in that dress! I love polka dots too! There's something so cheerful about polka dots, and the color red. Red used to be my Monday color when teaching.

    1. They are not really dots on that dress, more like flowers, but the cheerful effect is certainly there :-)
How nice to have a specific colour to wear for certain days of the week! Did you have a yellow day by any chance?

  5. That is a fun little summer dress, dear Meike! I love it!! Especially the contrast of the black, red and white. Nice!! And it looks fantastic on you! Liebe Gruesse, Silke

    1. Vielen Dank, Silke :-) The top bit and the bow are dark blue, not black; it just looks like that through the camera I guess.
And yes, it is fun to wear on a hot day - nice and airy :-D

  6. My first - and very cheeky - thought was that at least it wasn't a very heavy bag to carry round on your walk! It is, however, also classic, simple and very very attractive (well perhaps it's not just the dress!).

    1. Indeed, Graham, had it been heavier to carry around, we wouldn't have bought it on the way to the park, but would have asked to have it put aside for me to pick it up on our way back.

    1. Your comment sounds a tad spammy, as if you have left the same comment to many blogs you have found by typing "fashion" into the search bar... If I am not right, I apologize; if I am right, please don't spam-comment on other people's blogs. Comments are a great way to keep in touch with my fellow bloggers, and I like to read what they think about a particular post, not "awesome and truly excellent data designed for readers".
Anyway - good luck with your own page, which seems to be fairly new :-)

I love that sundress on you and those red shoes! My goodness, I could fight you for them! (HA HA, just kidding!)

    1. Kay, you are so funny :-) We could take turns in wearing them... if you happen to have the same shoe size as I!

    2. I have the hands and feet of a very tall woman. I loved living in England where I wore a size seven shoe, but it is a size nine in America! But honestly, I am grateful for my strong wide feet, they are very good at getting me up my mountains.

    3. In that case, there is no need to fight me for the red mules - mine is a size 5 1/2 (Europe), don't know what that is in the US.
And indeed, your feet get you up Arabia Mountain without any problem, and your hands make Miracle Cookies and lots of other lovely things!
