On a recent post, fellow blogger Tasker Dunham commented that it was sunny again. In my reply, I promised a post with pictures of an un-sunny walk specifically for him. And now I even have pictures of TWO un-sunny walks I undertook, on the 14th and 16th of November respectively!
Sunday, the 14th, near O.K.'s village, with deep clouds over the Black Forest:
Of course, autumn colours are wonderful when they are lit up by the sun, but in my opinion, they look good no matter the weather. By mid-November, there are more leaves on the ground than on the trees, but I keep being amazed at how some orchard trees are actually still green.
And walks are important for my wellbeing, come rain or shine. Only when it is really totally dismal outside, I make an exception and don't go out during my lunch break or after work.
I have been walking for one reason or the other every day of the past week, but did not take any pictures. Just trust me if I say none of those walks was sunny!
We've seen almost no sun at all for more than a week now. According to the forecast, we can look forward to two sunny days tomorrow and Wednesday. Temperatures will drop a bit more, reaching a few degrees below freezing point at night. And by Friday, there could be the first snowfall of this season - in time for the first Advent Sunday.
We are having frosts but wonderful sunny days - soaking up the sun at this time of year I feel I can store a bit for dark days to come.
ReplyDeleteAs forecast, we have had a frosty night; -2C as we speak (6:23 am), and the sky is clear - it should indeed be sunny here today, so I shall try and fill my store during lunch break.
DeleteI think I prefer sunny walks, but, as you say, an unsunny walk is better than no walk at all. As Weaver says, frosty and sunny here today. Did some sunny moss spraying.
ReplyDeleteWe have the frosty bit here today, and the sunny will arrive no doubt once the sun rises (which is pretty late now at about 7:44 am).
DeleteYes, sunny walks are the best, but I don't actually mind the weather as long as it does not pour.
We've had some big temperature fluctuations here. Thursday is was 28c. Saturday morning it was -2.2c. Went to the beach this weekend (Atlantic Ocean). Not too windy. Just a bit chilly, but walking up and down the coast along the edge of breaking waves was worth it. Such a wonderful sound. Hope you can make the most out of your two sunny days.
ReplyDeleteIt's been rather stable here with lowest temps hovering at just above freezing point and highs still cold enough for wanting to wear a padded coat and a scarf. Now it has dropped below freezing point and I guess it'll keep that way for the rest of the week, with possibly the first snow fall of this season on Friday.
DeleteBack in North Carolina we are often fortunate to have plenty of sunny days even in winter - wish I could package them up and send them your way Meike!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHere in Arizona it's partly cloudy but of course no rain - driving south from Tucson yesterday, just prior to sunset, was beautiful as we were surrounded by mountains and the light was awesome with the clouds. Nice place but I miss the deciduous trees - not much change in autumn color of course.
Hugs - Mary
Your drive sounds beautiful - and thank you for sending over a sunny day today, it has definitely worked!! I extended my lunch break a bit so that I was able to go for a walk in the sun; I don't mind working a little longer instead, as it will be dark before 5:00 pm anyway.
DeleteI haven't taken my daily walks this week as I am preparing for our Thanksgiving celebration on Thursday. I think vacuuming and cleaning counts as my exercise for now! :)
ReplyDeleteEven when it is gray out - your views are still lovely! Thanks!
You are right - housework can be plenty of exercise :-) But it is also important to catch at least SOME daylight as often as possible; even just a 15 minute walk to the bakery or around the block gives your body more lux than an entire day spent under the lights in the average office or home. We need it to produce vitamin D and for the chemical balance in our brains - in other words, to combat winter blues.
DeleteWishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow!
Thank you!
DeleteLet me know what you cooked - I love reading about what others make and eat for special meals (and for everyday meals, too) :-)
DeleteWhen I read the words "walks are important for my wellbeing, come rain or shine." it was before I'd been to have a chat with someone about my exercise regime. Since Covid I've never been back to the gym and my walking has deteriorated a bit too. The rain and the shine are no problem for me. The problem is the WIND. I dislike walking in the wind. So I prefer to walk in the Castle Grounds. It all involves travelling. As does the gym. I wish that I had your determination and resolve.
ReplyDeleteWalking in the wind can be great, but it gets really hard when there is no end to it and the wind is too strong, cold or wet (or all of it). I remember a walk to Fountains Abbey with my sister with a nasty wind blowing all day, making the whole excursion much more tiring than it would have been otherwise.
DeleteAs for my determination and resolve - it's more a question of feeling the urge/need/want to get out and walk when I spend most of my time stuck at a desk and looking at computer screens.
