The weather looked unsettled, and while we did go for a walk along Ripon canal, we cut it short when light rain started to make it a bit unfriendly.
Instead, we went for a late-ish light lunch at Oliver‘s Pantry again, and had a good rest at the cottage afterwards, followed by coffee/tea on the bench in front of the house - yes, the sun was out again, but it was very windy, and we retreated inside after only half a mug to finish our drinks without being blown about.
Still, we wanted to make up for the morning’s abandoned walk and went in the opposite direction, to where we knew the cemetery is. Years ago, we came across it quite by accident and found several graves of German soldiers from WWII, all of them having died a few years after the war ended, so we assume hey were POWs in Ripon. You can see photos of our 2016 visit here.
A bit more than an hour spent chatting, showing Mary the photos from the family gathering (she can‘t/won‘t go anymore, for health reasons), and I walked back to our place where my sister was getting our evening meal ready.
I love the way you walk everywhere - no wonder you keep fit. Rotten weather for your stay so far - particularly today.
ReplyDeleteNo choice but to walk when one doesn‘t drive - and I much prefer it for such short distances as in amd around Ripon, too.
DeleteThe weather has not at all been rotten in Ripon; most days had a mix of sun and cloud, and the occasional shower does not hurt.
Only today has been wet since before sunrise, but that‘s no problem for us.
I love your socks !

Yellow and grey - my favourite colour combination 😊
DeleteYou are such a positive woman dear Meike, and certainly never let the weather get you down or stop your walking/hiking adventures! Love the yellow touches in your outfit.
ReplyDeleteWe are off next week and hoping for good/cooler weather in New England - I can't walk long distances now like you do but do like to take short ones especially at the coast where we'll be in Maine and New Hampshire, both of which we loved when younger and living up there. Maine beaches, lobster dinners and clambakes were favorite times - and we like going back and reliving those memories.
Enjoy the remainder of your holiday.
Hugs, Mary
Thank you, Mary - last day tomorrow…
DeleteEnjoy your walks at the coast and pleasant weather!
Yellow is my favourite colour.
