Days In Between

With the May Fest over and most of the stuff packed away for another year, all that remained to do on Tuesday (the 2nd of May) was to dismantle the tent. The company who rents out tents for all sorts of events had arranged to send two men and their truck for pick up from 5:00 pm onwards, and along with several other band members, O.K. went to help.

During the day, we had briefly been into town, shopping for shoes as a birthday present for O.K. It was a beautiful sunny day and would have been perfect for walking or hiking, but the 5:00 pm appointment kept us closer to home.

It was O.K.‘s birthday on Wednesday (May 3), and with the sun shining and 21 Celsius, we decided on a short drive out to the area around Durbach.

A walk in the vineyards and woods around the Wolfsgrube (a popular beer garden/restaurant in the area) followed before it was time to go home for coffee, then change into nice outfits and drive the few minutes to Niederschopfheim, where a table for 12 was booked for us in a pizzeria well known for good quality food.

It was a nice evening with food, friends and family, and the day felt holiday-like.

Thursday (May the fourth - and yes, I am aware of the word play) was our last chance to get washing done for our week away, as well as some household tasks around the cottage and for O.K.‘s parents.

It was also the warmest day of the year so far at 26 Celsius. We drove to a small town where O.K.‘s preferred clothes shop is, since his favourite pair of jeans had become ripped. Good new jeans were found, and as it was lunch time when we left the shop, we stopped at a bakery to get warm Datschkuchen (savoury snacks remotely similar to pizza) and ate those in the shade of a large tree, surrounded by meadows full of spring flowers.

In the evening, we started our proper holiday with Apérol Spritz on the cottage balcony - it truly felt like summer, and although we knew it was not going to stay like that for the next week, we were happy to enjoy it while it lasted.
