Saturday, the 6th of May, was our first full day in Limpach, Deggenhausertal. It was sunny and warmed up to 22 Celsius (71.6 F) during the day - perfect for a day spent outdoors!
Spring is at its best when meadows, orchards and gardens are full of blossoms, fruit trees and hawthorn hedges look like fluffy white clouds and the woods are filled with birdsong and tender green.
From our hotel, there is a small choice of walks and hikes in two or three different directions. The longest one covers about 17-18 km and includes the highest hill in the area, the Höchsten (literally "highest") at just under 840 m. I suppose you can guess which one we chose for our first full day!
We've been there during our previous stay here, but did not have time to walk the entire route back then. Still, we enjoyed the view as shown in the panoramic picture in this post.
The hike had a lot of uphill and downhill, and the path took in the aforementioned meadows in bloom as well as woodland. Some of it was exhausting enough to be a bit of a challenge, but altogether the tour is manageable for anyone with a medium degree of fitness (and with the appropriate footwear).
We rewarded ourselves with a shandy at the restaurant near the top of the Höchsten before returning to our hotel, where we had just enough time for a quick turn in the spa and change into fresh clothes before sitting down to another lovely three course dinner.
Thank you for allowing me to walk with you with your writing and photographs. I went through Wensleydale on Thursday and felt just the same. Spring - the perfect time of year. Enjoy your stay.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pat! You are very welcome to come along.
DeleteWe returned home on Friday and it's back to work tomorrow; a week is over so quickly!
You need a big dinner to replenish your energy after all of that hiking! Sweet photo of you, Meike!
ReplyDeleteBy the way...Sorry to hear your Mom has Covid and hope she gets well soon!
Thank you, Ellen. I have just dropped off a few little somethings at my Mum's; she came to the door wearing a mask and of course I did not go in or hug her. But she's already feeling better than yesterday, and keeps taking things easy until she gets her strength back.
DeleteThe meals at the hotel were not just sumptuous, but also "good for us" - everything they serve there is organic, from their own home-grown produce (the family are also running an organic farm with Black Angus cattle and vegetable fields) to the wine they buy from organic wineries.
I could feel my legs aching just reading that.
ReplyDeleteSorry about that!
