Fun With Friends

On Monday (July 25), my late husband‘s school friend and his wife came visiting. We had not seen each other since 2017 apart from a few zoom meetings. N and F are lovely people, and we can as much laugh together as have serious conversations.

After cups of tea at our cottage (that is one of the nice things about not staying at a hotel - one can have guests just like at home), we went to the cathedral with them and then had lunch in the garden at Oliver‘s Pantry before they had to head back in the early afternoon. I do hope it won‘t be another 5 years before we meet again!

My sister and I spent the afternoon with a few leisurely stops at shops for bits and bobs (hey, that rhymes!) before walking to the Leper Chapel once more. This time, it was open, and that had been our intention.

Walking back via a detour that took us round the back of the cathedral and through the courthouse garden:

The evening brought chilly temperatures and rain. Just right for home-made ratatouille and couscous, with my sister being the cook.

    1. On North Street, just at the corner where North Street meets with Fishergate and Old Market Place. I can recommend it!

  2. Dear Meike, so glad you and sis are having such a great time and able to catch up with long missed family and friends. That area certainly sounds very interesting with much to see, and lovely places to relax and wander - and to have a good meal, snack or drink!
I agree that staying in a house/apt. is conducive to entertaining guests in a much more relaxing way. Although our hotel was lovely in June in Devon, we did miss our usual rental places with more than just our room or the hotel lobby to sit and chat with a nice cuppa or bottle of wine etc. At least the weather was kind for us too, actually perfect, and we were able to get out and about without rain jackets, umbrellas etc.
Enjoy your remaining time in Yorkshire.
    Hugs - Mary

    1. Thank you, dear Mary! It was our last day here today, and a very good day it has been all around.
We love staying at this cottage, with each of us having their own space (bedroom & bathroom) on top of the front room and kitchen. With both of us living on our own, and having done so for decades, we prefer it this way instead of sharing one hotel room, bath/shower and nothing else.
It is different when O.K. and I are on holiday, we easily share a hotel room as a couple.

  3. Renting a cottage sounds like an ideal arrangement, especially for a longer stay. And always good to revisit familiar favourite places!

    1. It is ideal for us, and we are happy now that we know it is in such good hands after the change of ownership.

  4. These last years have been so weird (as well as terrifying)! It is great to catch up with old friends!

    1. Absolutely! It is always good to see them, and we can instantly reconnect as if we'd only met last week.
